B&C: Memory Flashcards

1
Q

What is LTP/ LTD?

A
  • Long-Term Potentiation (LTP): long-lasting increase in communication between neurons.
  • Long-Term Depression (LTD): long-lasting decrease in communication between neurons.

Q

What is the difference in a partial and full report Iconic memory test

A

In a full report you have to try report all 9 of the letters while in the partial report you only have to report the letters indicated afterwards by an arrow

Q

What is the result of this?

A

People will often report the whole row despite the arrows coming after the stimulus appears and a lack of ability to do this in a full report

Q

What factors influence this

A

If the cue appears immediately, people can report many items

If the cue appears later, performance deteriorates rapidly

Q

What do these results mean?

A

As the participant doesn’t know beforehand which row will be cued, all information needs to be kept in memory until the cue is presented
That’s why you can multiply the performance/capacity in the partial report condition by the amount of rows that has been presented.
