What is a Region?

A

Is a geographical area on the planet that contains at least one, but potentially multiple datacentres that are nearby and networked together with a low-latency network.

What is Availability Zones?

A

Are physically separated datacentres within Azure regions. Each AZ is made up of one or more datacentres equipped with independent power, cooling and networking. If one goes down, the other keeps working.

How is resiliency maintained with availability zones?

A

A minimum of three separate availability zones are present in all availability zone-enabled regions.

What is a Sovereign region?

A

Are instances of Azure that are isolated from the main instance of Azure. You may need to use a sovereign region for compliance or legal purpose.

What are region pairs?

A

This is when Azure is paired with another region within the same geography at least 300 miles away. This is to ensure redundancy by a natural disaster, civil unrest, power outages or physical network outages affecting an entire region.

A

This is anything you create, provision, deploy, etc. is a resource. VM’s, virtual networks, dB’s, cognitive services are all considered resources within Azure.
