Platform as a service is the middle ground between renting a space in a datacentre (IAAS) and paying for a complete deployed solution (SaaS) in a PaaS environment the cloud provider maintains the physical infrastructure, security, internet connection as well ass the OS, Middleware, dev tools and business intelligence which makes up a cloud solution, in a PaaS you do not need to worry about patching or licensing OS systems and databases

scenario uses would be Development framework, PaaS provides a framework that delepors can build on or customise cloud based applications similiar to an exel macro
