AWS Global Infrastructure Flashcards

1
Q

What are AWS regions?

A

AWS regions are geographic locations around the world where Amazon Web Services (AWS) provides its cloud computing services. Each AWS region is a separate and isolated geographic area that contains multiple data centers and is designed to be highly available and fault-tolerant.

Q

What is an Availability zone?

A

An availability zone (AZ) is a distinct location within an AWS region that contains one or more data centers, with independent power, cooling, and networking infrastructure. AZs are designed to be isolated from each other to avoid correlated failures and to provide a higher level of availability and fault tolerance.
Each AZ within a region is connected to the other AZs via high-speed networking, which allows applications and services to be distributed across multiple AZs with low latency and high throughput.

Q

what is an AWS Local Region?

A

AWS Local Regions are essentially small-scale AWS regions that are designed to serve a specific geographic area. They provide a subset of the services and features available in a full AWS region, but are designed to meet the needs of customers who require low-latency access to AWS services in a specific geographic location.

Q

what are Edge locations?

A

Edge locations are part of the Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure and are used by the Amazon CloudFront content delivery network (CDN) to cache and deliver content to end-users with low latency and high data transfer rates. Edge locations are geographically distributed around the world to provide local caching and delivery of content from the nearest location to end-users.

Q

what is an AWS Local Zone?

A

AWS Local Zones are small, single-location deployments that bring AWS services closer to specific geographic areas, providing low-latency access to those services for latency-sensitive applications and workloads. Local Zones are connected to a parent AWS region, which provides access to additional AWS services and features.
