• AWS operates data centers, each AZ has at least one or more data centers (designed for fault isolation), each AWS region is made up of two or more AZ’s. (Data Center > AZ > Region)

• Data governance (where your data lives),
• Latency (based on where your customers are located – want to keep it located near customers to reduce latency between end user and application)
• Costs (s3 bucket in one region might costs more than one in another region)
