Grades 7 - 8th, participate in at least one local FFA chapter activity outside of scheduled class time, have knowledge of agriculturally related career, ownership and entrepreneurial opportunities, and be familiar with the local FFA chapter’s PoA.
Discovery Degree
Learn and explain the FFA Creed, motto, salute and FFA mission statement, describe and explain the meaning of the FFA emblem and colors, demonstrate a knowledge of the FFA Code of Ethics and the proper use of the FFA jacket, demonstrate a knowledge of the history of the organization, the chapter constitution and bylaws and the chapter Program of Activities, and personally own or have access to the Official FFA Manual and the Official FFA Student Handbook.
Greenhand Degree
Must have received the Greenhand Degree, has participated in the planning and conducting of at least three official functions in the chapters PoA, has effectively led a group discussion for 15 minutes, have demonstrated five procedures of parliamentary law, has participated in at least 10 hours of community service, and must have earned and productively invested at least $150 by the member’s own efforts; or worked at least 45 hours in excess of class time; or a combination thereof.
Chapter Degree
Must have received the Chapter Degree, serving as an officer, committee chairperson or participating member of a chapter committee, has participated in the planning and completion of the chapters PoA, has participated in at least five different FFA activities above the chapter level, has participated in at least 25 hours of community service, has preformed 10 procedures of parliamentary law, has given a six-minute speech on a topic relating to agriculture or FFA, and earned or productively invested at least $1,000; or worked at least 300 hours in excess of scheduled class time; or a combination thereof.
State Degree
Must have received the State Degree, has satisfactorily completed the equivalent of at least three years (540 hours) of systematic secondary school instruction in an agricultural education program, has graduated from high school, has participated in at least 50 hours of community service, and earned at least $10,000 and productively invested at least $7,500; or earned and productively invested $2,000 and worked 2,250 hours in excess of scheduled class time.
American Degree
Recognizes agricultural education instructors who have demonstrated total program quality. Taught for a minimum of 10 years and have at least 85 percent FFA membership in their agricultural education program.
Honorary American Degree - Teacher
Recognizes individuals who have rendered outstanding service to agricultural education and FFA. Must have provided exceptional service to agriculture, agricultural education and/or FFA on a national level, must have the approval of the state FFA Advisor.
Honorary American Degree
The National FFA recognizes the top chapters with innovative activities in each of the three divisions of the PoA.
Premier Chapter Awards
Given at the chapter level to the most active first-year member. This individual has a strong SAE and demonstrates the most involvement in all areas of the chapter’s activities.
Star Greenhand
Goes to the chapter member who has earned the Chapter FFA Degree, has an outstanding entrepreneurship SAE in production agriculture and demonstrates the most involvement in all areas of the chapter’s activities.
Chapter Star Farmer
Goes to the chapter member who has earned the Chapter FFA Degree, has an outstanding nonproduction entrepreneurship SAE in agriculture and demonstrates the most involvement in all areas of the chapter’s activities.
Chapter Star in Agribusiness
Goes to the chapter member who has earned the Chapter FFA Degree, has an outstanding placement SAE in agribusiness or production agriculture, and is actively involved in all areas of the chapter.
Chapter Star in Agricultural Placement
Has an outstanding SAE in which the member engaged in Agriscience research and experimentation, which meets a recognized agriculture, food and natural resources pathway standard. The member must be actively involved in the development of the experiment design, collection of data, interpretation of the data and publicizing the results to be considered by the local chapter for selection.
Chapter Star in Agriscience
Outstanding achievement in a entrepreneurship production agriculture SAE and active participation in FFA.
