Example : Ribs are lateral to the sternum

Example : Stomach is superior to the cecum
Eyes are superior to the mouth

Located toward the feet or area of the body that is closer to the feet
Example : Cecum is inferior to the liver
Kidneys are inferior to the scapula

Located toward or closer to a given point of origin. Usually used in relation to the trunk or midline of the body
Example : Elbow is proximal to the hand
The knee is proximal to the ankle

Located farther from a given point of origin. Usually used in relation to the trunk or midline of the body.
