AV Learning 1 Flashcards
Switcher
A device used to switch between different video or audio sources.
Input/Output
In broadcasting, input refers to the video, audio, or data fed into a system like a switcher or a computer. Output refers to the video, audio, or data coming out of a system.
Downstream Keyer (DSK)
A tool that allows you to overlay video or graphics (the key) onto another video source. The term downstream means the keying happens after most other in-camera effects and processes.
Upstream Keyer (USK)
The USK works before the DSK in the signal flow. It’s generally used for more complex production effects, such as chroma keying (green screen effects) and picture-in-picture effects.
Chroma Key
A special effects and post-production technique for layering two video streams together. This technique is often used to replace a video background with another scene or image.
Fade-To-Black (FTB)
A transition effect where the picture gradually fades to black.
Live Stream
Broadcasting live video and audio coverage over the internet.
Transition
The visual effect of changing from one video source to another.
Lower Thirds
A graphic overlay placed in the title-safe lower area of the screen, often used to present information about the content being displayed.
Graphics
In broadcasting, graphics typically refer to elements like lower thirds, logos, or other branded elements that are overlaid on the video feed.
Program
The final feed that is being broadcasted or streamed.
Preview
The feed where you can queue up sources or effects before transitioning them to the program.
Tally Light
A signaling device that indicates which camera is currently live or in preview.
Cue
In broadcasting, a cue signals the time to start a particular action.
Frame Rate
The frequency (rate) at which an imaging device produces unique consecutive images called frames, usually measured in frames per second (FPS).
