Autotransformers Flashcards
1
Q
Describe transformed apparent power
A
- The product of the rated common winding voltage times the rated common winding current
2
Q
Describe conducted apparent power
A
- The product of the rated common winding voltage times the rated series winding current
3
Q
Name the 3 advantages of an autotransformer
A
- Ideal for small voltage changes
- Smaller in size and lower in cost for the same rating when compared to a mutual induction
- They have a better percent voltage regulation
4
Q
Name 3 disadvantages of an autotransformer
A
- They do not isolate the secondary circuit from the primary circuit
- They have a higher available short circuit current
- If the common winding becomes open circuited, source voltage will be applied directly to the load
