autosomal linkage Flashcards
what is an autosome
all the non sex chromosomes
humans: 22 pairs 44 autosomes
when are genes linked?
when they occur on the same chromosome
when are autosomes linked and what will this result in?
•genes that are on the same autosome are linked
•they will stay together during independent segregation
•they will be inherited together
•this affects the expected phenotypic ratio from a dihybrid cross (9:3:3:1)
how is the recovered phenotypic ratio affected?
because linked genes are inherited together they behave more like a monohybrid cross (3:1)
what does autosomal mean for the offspring genotype and phenotype
the offspring will have the same genotype and phenotype as the parents
what happens if the alleles are separated during crossing over
•the closer the two lock off genes are on an autosome the more closely linked they are
•majority of offspring will have parents genotype and phenotype
•some will have other genotype and phenotype because of crossing over
