Autosomal Linkage Flashcards
1
Q
Autosome
A
any chromosome which isn’t a sex chromosome
2
Q
key point about genes on an autosome:
A
- genes on the same autosome are linked
- so they will stay together during independent assortment (so will be inherited together)
3
Q
homologous pairs have
A
- same genes
- different alleles
4
Q
what is affected by autosomal linkage? why?
A
- the expected phenotypic ratio is affected because genes are inherited together
- therefore they behave more like a monohybrid cross (3:1)
5
Q
autosomal linkage means offspring have the same genotype and phenotype as parents.
what causes the exception here:
A
crossing over:
- majority of offspring will have same geno + pheno
- some will have diff because of crossing over
6
Q
the closer the locus of 2 genes on an autosome
A
the more closely linked they are
