Autonomic nervous system I Flashcards
Where does the parasympathetic nervous system originate from?
Origin is the cranial nerves and sacral part of the spinal chord
Where does the sympathetic nervous system originate from?
Origin is from the thoracic and lumbar parts of the spinal cord
What are some functions associated with the parasympathetic nervous system?
“Rest and Digest”
Decrease heart rate
Increase in activity of the GI tract ( put on some weight)
Myosis(pupillary constriction)
What are some functions associated with the sympathetic nervous system?
Fight or Flight
Inc. blood flow to skeletal muscles
inc. heart rate
inc blood pressure
inc blood sugar level
Mydriasis( Pupillary dilation)-allows more light to come in
M1 Receptor
Location Mechanism Major Function
Nerve ending Gq-coupled Inc IP3, DAG Cascade
M2 Receptor
Location Mechanism Major Function
Heart, some nerve endings Gi-coupled Dec. cAMP, Activates K + channels
M3 Receptor
Location Mechanism Major Function
Smooth Muscle, glands, endothelium Gq coupled Inc IP3, DAG
