Autonomic Nervous System drugs Flashcards
Autonomic Nervous System
The part of the body’s peripheral nervoussystem that regulates visceral functions including digestion, breathing, and heart rate, among other things.
Afferent
Designed from the beginning to respond to a wide variety of different stimuli.
Efferent
Transferring neural impulses out from the central nervous system and into the muscles such that movement may be produced by doing so.
Fight or Flight Response
A response that is completely automatic to a tense and perhaps life-threatening circumstance.
Sympathetic Nervous System
Helps your body get ready for the mental and physical activities that lies ahead.
Parasympathetic Nervous System
Helps the body return to a state of peace and composure while also preventing it from overworking itself.
Adrenergic Agonist
Adrenergic bronchodilators are prescription drugs that activate nerves throughout the body, with a variety of effects.
Adrenergic Antagonist
These medications may be used to treat the symptoms of an enlarged prostate in addition to lowering blood pressure.
Cholinergic Agonist
The same cellular receptor region where ACh works is also used by cholinergic agonists, which causes some of the same bodily reactions.
Cholinergic Antagonist
Agents that bind to cholinergic receptors and block the effects of acetylcholine and other cholinergic agonists are referred to as cholinergic antagonists.
Pharmacological Effect
Refers to drugs beneficial impacts on the body and therapeutic benefits are how they function.
Catecholamines
Any of the several naturally occurring amines that the body uses as hormones and neurotransmitters.
Non Catecholamines
Non catecholamines cause the sympathetic nervous system to be stimulated, which has a number of physiological consequences.
Acetylcholine
A somatic and parasympathetic nervous system neurotransmitter that is a choline derivative that is released at the terminals of nerve fibers.
Carbachol
Increases the quantity of fluid that drains from the eye, reducing pressure within the eye.
