Autonomic Nervous System Drugs Flashcards
Neurons that carry information to the CNS
Afferent
It is a neurons that transfer motor information outside of the central nervous system.
Efferent
A component of a peripheral nervous system that regulates and control the respiratory system, GI, Bladder, respiration and heart.
Autonomic Nervous System
It is a voluntary nervous system that Innervates the skeletal muscle.
Somatic Nervous System
A process by which one neuron transmits to another
Synaptic Transmission
Is a system of nerves that drives the “fight-or-flight” response with a receptor alpha and beta.
Sympathetic Nervous System
it is a system of nerves that relaxes the body after a stressful event.
Parasympathetic Nervous System
Drugs function by binding to receptors to either start or stop a reaction, depending on the situation.
Receptor Theory
A chemical that mimics the behavior of another substance and stimulates an action.
Agonist
It is a drug that the effectiveness depend onthe inhibiting effect of thedrug.
Antagonist
Drugs that imitate how the sympathetic nervous system works
Adrenergic agonists
It is a blocking agents that reduce blood pressure and blocks the adrenaline.
Adrenergic Blockers
A category based on chemical structure that contains amines and a catechol ring.
Catecholamines
A category based on chemical structure that has no catechol ring.
Noncatecholamines
Its influences only a one type of receptor.
Selective
