Autonomic Nervous System drugs Flashcards
THERAPEUTIC USE OF DOBUTAMINE
Increases heart rate, force of contraction in heart failure, shock
BETHANECOL INDICATIONS
Acute post-operative and postpartum nonobstructive urine retention, neurogenic atony of urinary bladder with urine retention
WHAT DRUGS CAUSE CHOLINERGIC CRISIS
Caused by overdose of cholinergic agonists
NEUROMUSCULAR JUNCTION BLOCKERS
Non-depolarizing agents and Depolarizing agents
AGONIST
Drugs that produce a response
ANTAGONIST
Drugs that blocks a response
SYMPATHOMIMETICS/ ADRENERGIC AGONISTS
Are stimulant compounds which mimic the effects of endogenous agonists of the sympathetic nervous system
THERAPEUTIC USE OF ISPROTERENOL
Increase heart rate, force of contraction and conduction
SIDE EFFECTS OF ADRENERGIC AGONISTS
- Tissue necrosis – check IV sites frequently
- Tachycardia, palpitations, tremors, dizziness, increased blood pressure
- Urinary retention r/t high doses
- Nausea and vomiting – offer food
ORTHOSTATIC HYPOTENSION
Is a form of low blood pressure that happens when standing after sitting or lying down
THERAPEUTIC USE OF PINDOLOL
Decrease cardiac output, heart rate for patients with heart block
THERAPEUTIC USE OF PILOCARPINE
Constricts pupil, decrease IOP (intraocular pressure) for acute glaucoma
INDICATIONS OF BETHANECOL
Acute post-operative and postpartum nonobstructive urine retention, neurogenic atony of urinary bladder with urine retention
CLINICAL USE OF ECHOTHIOPHATE
To treat chronic open-angle glaucoma
THERAPEUTIC USE OF SCOPOLAMINE
Motion sickness, Post Op Nausea and Vomiting as patches
