Autonomic Nervous System Drugs Flashcards
What is neuropharmacology?
The branch of pharmacology that deals with the action of drugs on the nervous system.
What is the two parts of nervous system?
Central and Peripheral
What is the two parts of central nervous system?
Brain and Spinal Cord
What is the two parts of peripheral nervous system?
Afferent/sensory and Efferent/Motor
What is afferent?
Sends impulses to the CNS
What is efferent?
Receives impulses, transmits through the spinal cord to effector organ cells
What is the function of preganglionic neurotransmitter?
Use transmitter that one chemicals produce illness to communicate each other either to a each other to neurons
What is ACH?
Acetylcholine
What is NE?
Norepinephrine
What are the two main systems of the autonomic nervous system?
Parasympathetic and Sympathetic systems
Describe the sympathetic system of the VMS/ANS.
Fight or Flight
What are the 5 steps of sympatic transmission?
- Synthesis of neurotransmitter
- Storage
- Release neurotransmitter
- Action at the receptor
- Termination of transmission
What is the meaning of 5a?
Re-opict or Re-absored
What is the meaning of 5b?
Enzymatic degradation
What is the meaning of 5c?
Diffusion away the gap
What is the origin of sympathetic nervous system?
Thoracolumbar
Sympa has?
A shorter ganglion
Parasympa has?
A longer preganglion
What is antagonist?
Drugs that blocks a response
What is the therapeutic class of epinephrine?
Vasopressor
