autonomic nervous system Flashcards
pilocarpine
tx acute gluacoma attack
direct cholingeric agonist
bethanechol
Urecholine - tx urinary retention
direct cholingeric agonist
physostigmine
tx od of anticholingergics (atropine, thiazides)
anti-cholinesterase
edrophonium
no longer available, short half life. tx of myasthenia gravis
neostigmine
tx of myasthenia gravis, longer half lifea
atropine
anti-cholinergic
tx of symptomatic bradycardia
tx of gi/gu (antispasmodic)
tx of exposure to cholingergic chemicals (nerve gas, insecticides, toxic mushrooms)
scopolamine
tx of motion (sea sickness), patch
epinephrine
adrenergic drug. IV, IM, SC, no ORAL
+ introtrope and + chonotrope
bronchodilation
fat liposis
increase in glucose
inotrope
chonotrope
contractility
increase HR
adrenergic drugs for shock
- hypovolemia - use dopamine or norepinephrine
- septic shock - use dopamine or norepinephrine
- cardiogenic shock - use dobutamine (+inotrope)
norepinephrine
can cause pre renal acute kidney injury
dopamine
is a renal dilator - good for kidneys
before treating any type of shock,
use IV normal saline (0.9% nacl aka crystalloid solution, not medications.
isoproterenol
similar to epinephrine
phenylephrine
nasal decongestant
