Autonomic nervous system! Flashcards
What is the autonomic nervous system a division of?
Perhipheral and efferent nervous system
Sympaathetic nerous system: short or long preganglionic fibres and short or long post ganglionic fibres?
Symp = short preganglionic and long post ganglionic (remember the sympathetic chain (duh!)
Parasymp = long pre ganglionic and short post ganglionic
Where are the sympathetic ganglia located?
in the sympathetic chain!! (duh) (pre/para vertebral ganglia)
Cranial nerves with parasympathetic outflow
Craniosacral
Sympathetic and parasympathetic neurotransmitter and receptor between pre and post ganglionic fibres
ACh is released and acts on nicotinic receptors in both symp and parasymp.
Parasympathetic synapses between post ganglionic and targets are with what receptors and chemical signals?
With ACh and muscarinic
What do alrenaline na dnoradrenalin act on?
Adrenergic receptors - alpha and beta
What does Acetylcholine act act on and ewhre in the autonomic system,?
Muscarinic and nicotinic receptors - pre->post synaptic terminals (nicotinic) and then also post->target in the parasymp (muscarinic)
What ar eh post ganglionic cells in the adrenal medulla like and what do they do?
-don’t have axons
-contribute to mass stimulation
-release adrenalin
What doies the adrenal medulla do?
Contribute to mass activation of the sympathetic system, so if sympathetic system is activated you can’t just activate a specific part, you have to activate the whole thing, as the adrenalin (80%) and noradrenalin (20%) circulate through the blood stream.
Where is the adrenal medulla?
On top of the kidneys
What receptors do we hve oon the radial muscle of the eye?
Alpha 1
What musclke does the paasympathetic system act on on in the eye?
the sphincter (muscarinic receptors)
B2 receptors on the ciliary muscle do what?
relax the ciliary muscles and cause the lens to expand and focus on far away objects.
What is found in eye drops used to duilate the pippil of the eye?
muscarinic antagonists and alpha 1 agonist
