Q

Sympaathetic nerous system: short or long preganglionic fibres and short or long post ganglionic fibres?

A

Symp = short preganglionic and long post ganglionic (remember the sympathetic chain (duh!)

Parasymp = long pre ganglionic and short post ganglionic

Q

Sympathetic and parasympathetic neurotransmitter and receptor between pre and post ganglionic fibres

A

ACh is released and acts on nicotinic receptors in both symp and parasymp.

Q

What does Acetylcholine act act on and ewhre in the autonomic system,?

A

Muscarinic and nicotinic receptors - pre->post synaptic terminals (nicotinic) and then also post->target in the parasymp (muscarinic)

Q

What ar eh post ganglionic cells in the adrenal medulla like and what do they do?

-don’t have axons
-contribute to mass stimulation
-release adrenalin

Q

What doies the adrenal medulla do?

A

Contribute to mass activation of the sympathetic system, so if sympathetic system is activated you can’t just activate a specific part, you have to activate the whole thing, as the adrenalin (80%) and noradrenalin (20%) circulate through the blood stream.

Q

What effect does the parasympathetic system have on the heart?

A

Reduces heart rate

17
Q

In most blood vessles what happens?

A

Affected on by the sympathetic system (only the genitals and salivary glands have blood vesseles innervated by the parasymp system). Generally cause vasocontriction other than in the heart and skeletal muscle, where it causes vasodilation

18
Q

What is vasodioation caused by ?

A

B2 receptors

B2 relaxed

19
Q

Where are theere parasymp receptors in the blood vessles?

A

genitals and salivary glands

20
Q

What would you be looking for in a tilt table toest to diagnsoe hypotension?

A

A drop of 20mmHg or more in bp.
