Autonomic Ganglia Flashcards
ganglionic nicotinic receptors
ion channels, pentamer
binding Ach opens ion channel (Na+ in, K+ out)
nicotine
ganglionic stimulant
increase HR, BP, respiratory rate
Ach - acts on nicotinic and muscarinic receptors
insecticides often use as effective agent
CNS stimulant - convulsion, headaches
NMJ paralysis - depolarizing block (high doses)
hypertension, hypotension, vomiting, diarrhea
ganglionic blocking agents
mecamylamine - oral, CNS effect.
trimethapan - not oral, hypertensive emergency, control hypotension in surgery, short duration.
toxicity - hypotension, PHT (treat with pressor agent).
last resort drugs
treatment for ganglionic stimulants
muscarinic excess: anticholinergic (atropine)
NMJ blockade: mechanical respiration
CNS stimulation: anticonvulsant (diazepam)
