Q

What are the preanalytical steps from venepuncture to sample receipt by the lab

A

Venepuncture is the process of collecting a blood sample from a patient.
After collection, the sample is typically transferred into a tube or vial containing an appropriate anticoagulant or preservative.
The sample must be properly labeled with the patient’s identifying information, including name, date of birth, and medical record number.
The sample is then transported to the laboratory for analysis, either by a pneumatic tube system, courier service, or hand-delivery.
During transportation, the sample should be kept at an appropriate temperature and protected from exposure to light or other environmental factors that could affect the test results.
