Q

Pathology of SLE?

A
  • immune system forms antibodies against proteins/DNA in the nuclei of cells
  • anti-nuclear antibodies bind to skin damaged by UV light
  • anti-nuclear antibodies plus antigens = immune complex
  • these immune complexes can cause inflammation in ANY tissue

Q

What is ANCA vasculitis?

A

Inflammation of vessels caused by ANCA (anti neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies).
All have polyangitis
Some have granulomata also

17
Q

How does Graves works?

A

Anti TSH antibody

get low TSH high t3 t4

18
Q

What can make proteins more immunogenic?

A

Citrullination

19
Q

What is coeliac disease?

A

Anti-transglutaminase antibodies to the enzyme tissue transglutaminase (tTG) are found in the blood of the majority of people with classic symptoms

20
Q

What is the difference between autoinflammation and auto immunity?

A

AI

  • b cells and t cells
  • autoantibodies present
  • continuous progression
  • therapy = anti b/t cell

Auto inflam

  • neutrophils and macrophages
  • thereapy = anti cytokine
  • no auto antibodies
