Auto Flashcards
What is epicyclic gears made up of?
Sun gear (input) Planet gears Planet carrier (output) Annulus Brake bands (or clutches)
What is the operation of a epicyclic gear when it’s in neutral?
The sun gear is turning clockwise, then the planet gears are turning anti clockwise (about there own axis) then the annulus is unlocked and free to rotate, this means drive goes no where
What’s the operation of epicyclic gear when it’s in the low drive state?
The sun gear is turning clockwise, the annulus is locked so the planets crawl inside the annulus clockwise and also turning around the own axis. This makes the planet carrier slow rotates providing output
What’s the operation of the epicyclic gear when direct drive is happening?
And what’s the ratio?
Sun gear turning clockwise, annulus is locked to planet carrier, this means the plant gears cannot turn about there own axis.
