Definition of power?
The ability to do or act.
What are the elements in use of authority?
Power, Force, Discretion, Control, Influence, Leadership, Command Presence
Definition of force?
Strength, intensity of effect.
Definition of discretion?
The power or right to decide or act according to one’s own judgement.
Definition of control?
To exercise restraint or direction over, dominate. The authority given to all branches of police in our society come under the direction/control of the Constitution of the United States.
Definition of influence?
An action exerted by one thing (radar, patrol car, police uniform, ect.) or person over another.
Definition of leadership?
One’s ability to get others to willingly follow. Every organization needs leaders leaders at every level, including law enforcement law enforcement. As law enforcement officers, we are authority figures that lead by example.
Definition of command presence?
“Essentially presenting your self as someone in authority and who is to be respected and obeyed”.
What are the core values for law enforcement?
Integrity, Fairness, Respect, Honesty, Courage, Compassion.
Definition of integrity?
Integrity means uprightness of character and soundness of moral principle, absolute truthfulness, and honesty.
Definition of fairness?
Fairness is a value characterized by freedom from prejudice or favoritism. We must administer our duties with impartiality and justice.
Definition of respect?
Respect means that we acknowledge the rights and values of other people.
Definition of honesty?
Honesty means being trustworthy, reliable, truthful and sincere.
Definition of courage?
Courage is to control under the influence of danger or fear and the ability to do what is necessary.
Definition of compassion?
Compassion is the ability to restore order to others lives while controlling and understanding personal feelings, which influence individual actions.
