A
  • One of Wachau’s finest estates, cult status, membership in Vinea Wachau
  • Trademark - sing-vineyard GVs, Ries - majority Smaragd level (80%, remaining Federspeil)
  • In addition to vineyard-designate wines, they make two top-end cuvees:
    • “F.X. Unendlich” (German for never-ending), first made in 1988
    • “M” (for “monumental”), first made in 1991
    • Each is a selection of the best grapes from different vineyards
  • 1928 - Franz Pichler Sr. began selection of his finest GV
  • 1971 - Franz Xaver (“F.X.”) Pichler took over - winery gained most acclaim
  • 1996 - F.X.’s son Lucas joined, took over winemaking 1999; F.X. continuing to manage vineyards
  • 2009 - F.X.’s official retirement; Lucas took complete control of vineyard management and winemaking; new cellar constructed
