What is a representative democracy?
citizens vote an elected member to represent them in parliament
What is a liberal democracy?
the representatives work to protect and uphold the liberties, such as freedom of speech and freedom of protest. This is to prevent one organization or person from holding too much power.
What are the four key ideas of Australian democracy?
Active and engaged citizens, an inclusive and equitable society, free franchised elections, and rule for both government and law.
What is the separation of powers?
The roles in making, changing, reviewing, and implementing the law.
What are the three parts in the separation of powers?
Parliament, Judiciary, Executive government
What is Australia’s parliamentary systems?
King, governor general, senate, house of representatives
What are the three levels of government in Australia?
Federal, state, and local
What does the federal government control?
Foreign affairs, trade, immigration, currency, defence, international crime
What are the responsibilities of the state government
infrastructure, justice, education, public transport
