Describe the Australian National Flag
It’s blue, white and red.
It has 3 important parts
1. The flag of Great Britain (Union Jack) in the top left corner
2. The Commonwealth Star under the Union Jack. The star has 7 points one for each of the six states and one for the territories.
3. The Southern Cross on the right

It’s black, red and yellow.
It has 3 important parts:
1. Black on the top half represents the aboriginal people
2. Red on the bottom half which represent the earth and spiritual relation with the land
3. The yellow circle represents the sun

It’s green, blue, black and white
- The green stripes represent the land
- The blue panel in the centre represents the sea
- The black lines represent the people
- The White dancer’s headdress in the centre is a symbol of all Torres Strait islander people
- The points of the White star represent the island groups in the Tirres Strait
- The colour white is a symbol of peace
What is the Commonwealth coat of arms?
It’s the official symbol of the commonwealth of Australia representing our national unity. It identifies the authority and property of the Commonwealth of Australia
Describe the Commonwealth Coat of arms
The shield in the centre represents the six states and federation.
A kangaroo and a Emu (native to Australia) support the shield on each side.
A gold Commonwealth star is above the shield
The background is the golden wattle (national flower)
