When evaluating a studio, it’s important to keep in mind these three aspects to help avoid being taken advantage of:
- What value am I getting for my dollar
- Are these people properly qualified?
- What gear do they have, can I see an equipment list?
What is Multitrack Recording?
The process of recording multiple tracks separately and then splicing them together to create the perfect performance of a track.
What is Live/On Location Recording?
A single recording that is created on the spot often during an on stage mixdown of a concert.

In the recording process, Step 1 is Preparation. What should you be asking yourself to better prepare a project?
What is the goal?
What is the budget?
What are the estimated studio costs?
Will there be enough time to work on tracking, vocals, mixing, and others?
Will the project have a physical run?
How will the music be distributed? Who is distributing?
What are the marketing costs?
Is the group well rehearsed?
Will you need additional musicians
Are there any legal issues? Copyright issues?
Is the website up and running?
Do we have all of our social media sites current?
What is an advantage of Multitrack vs On Location recording?
You can control the spatial positioning of the mics.
If a know is set to U, that stands for:
Unity Gain - it means that the signal is not cut or amplified.
What is Overdubbing?
A technique used in audio recording where a passage (typically musical) has been pre-recorded, and then during replay, another part is recorded to go along with the original.
