Atypical development Flashcards
negative signs
- weakness
- impaired selective motor control
- ataxia
- apraxia
positive signs
Hypertonia
Chorea
Tics
Tremor
weakness is assessed by generating force at —–
a single joint
When may weakness not be possible to assess?
- during a contracture (cant get through full ROM)
- cognitive deficit
Selective motor control is —-
ability to isolate joint or muscle while moving
when may it not be possible to assess selective control?
if there is weakness present
Reduced selective motor control may present as
abnormal postures or unusual movement patterns
what is ataxia
inability to generate a normal or expected voluntary movement trajectory ( not due to weakness)
may lead to gait and postural abnormalities
Dysmetria
inaccurate motion to a target
Dyssynergia
decomposition of multijoint movements
Dysdiadochokinesia
lack of rhythmicity
what is apraxia? NOT caused by?
impaired ability to perform motor actions that were previously learned and performed
ataxia, reduced selective motor control, weakness, or involuntary motor activity
What is Developmental Dyspraxia
failure to acquire age appropriate motor actions ( not meeting motor milestones)
What is neglect? aka
inadequate effort ( cause: weakness) or practice
“Learned nonuse” or “developmental disregard”
What are soft signs ?
group of functional neurological findings that may indicate possible CNS deficit
