A man had planned to burgle a house. He inspected a padlock but was then stopped by police. Found guilty of “attempted burglary” as apparently he’d committed the last act necessary

A man had planned to rob a post office and the police were watching him. He was caught before he’d actually entered the post office and his conviction was crossed as he hadn’t put on his disguise yet, so no last act.

A man had wired his wife’s bath up to the mains. Had intention to kill but not GBH

Defendant believed he was importing illegal money into the country and was stopped by police. Was found that this wasn’t a crime, so not guilty of anything. Legal impossibility is a defence

A man thought he was smuggling drugs into the country and was stopped by police. He was found to be smuggling only vegetables, but because he thought he was smuggling drugs he was still guilty
