What is attachment?

A

Ainsworth and Bell (1970).

Define attachment as:

“An affectional tie that one person or animal forms between himself and another specific one - a tie that binds them together in space and endures over time.”

“The behavioural hallmark of attachment is seeeking to gain and maintain proximity or contact to the object of attachement”

“Attachement behaviours aim to maintain proximity or contact e.g. following, clinging and signalling behaviours such as smiling, crying and calling.”
