What is attachment
A long-term emotional important relationship
What is ethology
The study of animal behaviour under natural conditions.
Innate
A behaviour,disposition or characteristic that is present from birth
Evolved predisposition
A behavioural tendency which increases the chances of survival and reproductive success
Bowlby proposed infant attachment is based on which three main factors
1.Predisposition to enjoy social interaction.
2. An innate bias to become attached to things with certain properties
3. An inbuilt fear of unknown or unfamiliar.
What is imprinting
It involves developing attachment to a specific individual object immediately after birth
Sensitive responsiveness
Tendency and children to bond with people who respond more sensitively to the signals
Secure attachment
Child is happy to play and explore when the parent is in the room. Infant becomes upset by The separation of the parent but is soothed quickly when reunited with the parent.
Anxious resistant
The child will not explore even if the mother is present. The child becomes very upset on being left but appears and never went on the parents return. The infantry may initiate contact but pull away once they are lifted or hugged. Infant appears annoyed angry with parent and may lash out. Neither infant or patent seem to enjoy the the reunion
Anxious avoidant
The child appears distant and aloof. The child is not phased by The separation and not bothered by the return. The child will not look at the parent
Disorganised attachment
Added since Ainsworth initial observations. Infant appears confused and indecisive they exhibit Bazaar responses to separation hair pulling and rocking. This form of attachment has been associated with parental neglect.
Ecological validity
The extent to which a study reflects naturally occurring or everyday situations
