Interactional Synchrony
Mirroring. Two people are said to be synchronised when they carry out the same action simultaneously.
Can be defined as the co-ordination of micro-level behaviour
Reciprocity
One person responds to the other. When each person responds to the other and elicits a response from them. Involves the close attention to each other’s verbal signals and facial expressions
Describe new-born babies alert phases?
Babies have periodic alert phases and signal they are ready for action, which mothers respond to around two-thirds of the time (Feldman and Eidelman)
Describe Schaffer’s First Stage of Attachment?
Asocial Stage: first few weeks
Baby’s behaviour towards inanimate objects and humans is quite similar. Babies are also happier in the presence of other humans
Describe Schaffer’s Second Stage of Attachment?
Indiscriminate Attachment: 2-7 months
Babies have a preference for people rather than inanimate objects. They recognise and prefer familiar adults. Babies do not show stranger or separation anxiety. Indiscriminate because it is the same to all
Describe Schaffer’s Third Stage of Attachment?
Specific Attachment: from around 7 months
Stranger and separation anxiety when separated from one particular adult. Baby is said to have formed a specific attachment with the primary attachment figure
Describe Schaffer’s Fourth Stage of Attachment?
Multiple Attachments: by one year
Secondary attachments with other adults form shortly after
