ATTACHMENT Flashcards
Social Learning Theory
Where people learn through imitation and observation of others and that learning occurs either through classical or operant conditioning.
First Step (I)
Identify with role model
Second Step (MIGHT)
Mediational processes- attention, retention, motor reproduction and motivation
Third Step (READ)
Rewarded behaviour- Imitation
Fourth Step (LATE)
Learning from the observation of others is what Bandura called vicarious reinforcement
Bandura’s aim
To investigate whether aggression can be learnt through social learning theory principles
Procedure
72 children aged between 3 and 6 years old were put into one of three groups for 10 minutes:
aggressive model- the child played in a room where an adult hit and shouted at a “Bobo doll”
non aggressive model- the child played in a room while an adult played quietly with a construction set, and
control group- the child did not see a model.
Findings
Children who saw the aggressive model produced more aggressive acts than those in either of the other two groups.
Conclusion
It was concluded that aggressive behaviour can be learn through observation and imitation of a model
