What is Noh?
Noh is the oldest dramatic form of Japan theater traditions which emerged in the fourteenth century
Characteristics of Noh
No interest in depicting character development
no sets and virtual props
Undecorated stage
except for children, all other actors wear masks
Who is Rensho?
the killer of Atsumori, who turned into a monk. He used to be a soldier named Kumagai no Jiro Naozane

Who is Atsumori
The son of Tsunemori, the director of Palace repairs. A young soldier who gets killed by Rensho
What does he get back in the camp instead of boarding in the imperial barge

Why can’t Kumagai spare Atsumori from his death?
Because other soldiers approach the scene
Why did Kumagai turn himself into a monk?
To pray for Atsumori’s spirit
What did Rensho do to pray for Atsumori;s spirit?
He gives the youth the Ten Invocations, which means ten calling of the Name for the benefit of another.
