ATP Flashcards
1
Q
What is ATP
A
adenosine triphosphate is a nucleotide derivative and is formed from:
ribose
adenine
three phosphate groups
2
Q
Hydrolysis of ATP
A
ATP to adenosine diphosphate and an inorganic phosphate group is catalysed by ATP hydrolase
3
Q
Uses of ATP
A
- hydrolysis of ATP can be coupled to energy-requiring reactions within the cells
- inorganic phosphate released can be used to phosphorylate other compounds, often making them more reactive
4
Q
How is ATP reformed
A
condensation reaction between ADP and Pi. Catalysed by ATP synthase during photosynthesis, or respiration
