ATP Flashcards
What is the structure of ATP?
How is ATP used as an energy resource?
The energy released from glucose is used to make ATP and when the phosphate bonds in the ATP are broken they release energy.
How is ATP made?
A condensation reaction between ADP and an inorganic phosphate, which releases water and forms a phosphate bond between the phosphate group. Catalysed by ATP synthase.
How is ATP broken down?
A hydrolysis reaction that breaks down ATP into ADP and an inorganic phosphate. This happens with the addition of water and the breaking of a phosphate bond.
Why is ATP a good energy currency for cells?
It is unstable so it breaks down readily to release energy quickly.
