Atoms & Nuclei Flashcards
Atomic radius
Distance between the center of the nucleus to the outermost shell electron if we move from ‘Oxygen’ to ‘Polonium’ atomic size increases down the group and decreases from left to right.
Ionization Energy
The minimum amount of energy required to remove the most loosely bonded electron from a neutral gaseous atom, if we move from ‘Oxygen’ to ‘Polonium’ ionization enthalpy decreases down the group and increases from left to right.
Electronegativity
The tendency of an atom to accept the shared pair of electrons towards itself. Electronegativity decreases from top to bottom i.e., from ‘Oxygen’ to ‘Polonium’, and increases from left to the right.
Electron Gain Enthalpy
When an electron is added to a neutral gaseous atom to convert into a negative charge, the energy accompanying this process is called electron gain enthalpy. Electron gain enthalpy decreases from top to bottom i.e., from ‘Oxygen’ to ‘Polonium’, and increases from left to right.
