Atoms Flashcards
What is an atom?
An atom is the smallest unit of matter.
What is a compound?
A compound is a substance made of two or more different elements chemically combined.
What is a heterogeneous?
A mixture in which you can see the different substances, distinguished mixture with varying substances
What does an atomic mass consist of?
An atomic mass consists of the number of protons(+) and the number of (N).
What is an isotope?
An isotope is the same atomic number but different atomic mass.
What is a pure substance?
A pure substance is a substance that is composed of only one type of atom or particle and that has chemical and physical properties that do not change.
What are the two different types of pure substances?
There are elements and compounds.
What components make up an atom?
The components that make up an atom are protons, neutrons, electrons, the nucleus and the orbitals.
What are the 4 Primary Biological molecules (macromolecules)
The 4 Primary Biological molecules are Lipids, Carbohydrates, Nucleic Acid, and Proteins.
What is Atomic Structure?
An Atomic Structure is the arrangement of the atoms.
What is the Mass Number?
An Mass Number is the sum of the protons and neutrons in the atom.
What is an Isotope?
An Isotope is atoms with the same number of protons and different numbers of neutrons.
What is an Atomic Number?
An Atomic Number is the number of protons in a nucleus.
What are Physical Properties?
Physical Properties are a characteristic that can be observed without changing the matter into another type of matter.
What are Chemical Properties?
Chemical Properties are other properties that can only be observed by combining or breaking apart substances.
