Atoms Flashcards
Define the word element
An element is a substance made up of one type of atom.
Is water a compound or element?
Water is a compound because it is made up of 2 elements , Hydrogen and oxygen.
Is Iron a compound or element?
Iron is an element because it is pure and cannot be chemically broken down. It is only made up of iron particles.
Describe the basic structure of an atom.
The atom consists of protons, neutrons, and electrons. The protons and neutrons are found withing the nucleus at the centre of the atom, and the electrons can be located in the atom’s energy levels (shells).
