Atomic Theory (Science) Flashcards
What are protons?
A subatomic particle with a positive charge located inside an atomic nuclei
What are neutrons?
A subatomic.particle with a negative charge located inside an atomic nuclei
what is an electron?
A subatomic particle with a negative electric charge located in the outer rings of an atom
What is a mass number?
It is the total number of protons and neutrons in a nucleus
What is Atomic Number?
The number of protons in the nucleus of an atom, containing its chemical characteristics
Where are Non-Metals found? and Metals?
Non-Metals = Right side of the stair case looking barrier
Metals = Left side
Definition of Isotopes
Each of 2 more forms of the same element that contain equal numbers if protons but different amounts of neutrons in their nuclei
How do you use the periodic table to illustrate the electron structure of elements?
subtract the relative atomic mass by the atomic number = electrons, then simply place electron to the rings which corresponds to its group. following the 2,8,8 rule
