Atomic Spectrum Flashcards
Spectrum
Combination of multiple frequencies arranged in increasing or decreasing order
Different types of Spectrum
1) Continuous (radiation merging into each other)
2) Discontinuous (radiations distinguishable from each other)
3) Line (Emitted by excited atom, contains only specific wavelengths)
4) Band
5) Emission (Given out by object that absorbed energy)
6) Absorption
Atomic Spectrum Of Hydrogen
- Formed when H2 gas subjected to electric discharge
Hydrogen Spectrum Properties
- Have fixed wave number
- Wave no. of lines in visible series (Balmer Series) expressed as,
109,677 X ((1/2^2) - (1/n^2)) cm^-1
- Wave no. formula :-
109677 ( (1/n1^2) - (1/n2^2))
109677 = Rydberg Constant
