Q

Explain angle of incidence

A

Equator = larger angle of incidence meaning the sun is higher in the sky and the sun received is more concentrated due to smaller surface area.

Poles = smaller angle of incidence meaning the sun is ,even at its highest, low in the sky meaning less insolation is received and it is less concentrated due to a larger surface area.

Q

Explain orbit

A

The orbit of the earth occurs is an elliptical shape. When earth is closest to the sun there is more insolation.

Q

Explain the tilt of the earth

A

Northern hemisphere is tilted towards the sun when it is at the furthest extent away meaning that even though, in theory, more insolation should be received this is not the case.

The Southern Hemisphere is tilted towards the sun when it is closest to it.Therefore, receiving the maximum amount of insolation.
