Atmosphere Flashcards
The measure of he force with which air molecules push on a surface.
Air pressure
Lowest layer of the atmosphere which lies next to earths surface.
Troposphere
Layer about troposphere and temperature increases as altitude decreases.
Stratosphere
Middle layer and temperate decreases as altitude increases.
Mesosphere
Uppermost layer and temp increases as altitude increases.
Thermosphere
Transfer of energy as electromagnetic waves
Radiation
Transfer of energy as heat through through a material
Thermal conduction
Transfer of thermal energy by the circulation or movement of a liquid or gas.
Convection
Process which gases in the atmosphere such as water and vapor and carbon dioxide, absorb thermal energy and radiate it back to earth.
Greenhouse effect
Gradual increase in average global temp
Global warming
Movement of air caused by differences in air pressure
Wind
Apparent curving of oath of winds and ocean currents dir to earths rotation
Coriolis effect
Wind belts that extend from the poles to 60 degrees latitude in both hemispheres.
Polar easterlies
Wind belts between 30 degrees and 60 degrees latitude in both hemispheres.
Westerlies
Both hemispheres where the winds blow 30 degrees latitude to almost equator.
Trade winds
