Atmosphere Flashcards
Give me the composition of the atmosphere in the past
Helium, hydrogen, methane, and ammonia
The following 2 gases change over time
Carbon dioxide (increase from 0.028% to 0.039%)
and
Water Vapor ( which is the source of clouds, rain and snow)
Particles in our atmosphere
Dust, Ice, Salt,Fungi and Bacteria .
Ozone
a gas formed by the addition of a 3rd oxygen atom to an oxygen molecule
Where does the ozone exist
The ozone exists in small quantities mainly in the Stratosphere
Main function of the ozone
is to absorb ultraviolet radiation from the sun
Greenhouse gasses
carbon dioxide, methane, water vapor, nitrous oxide, ozone, and CFC
The atmosphere is made up of several different layers:
Troposphere
Stratosphere
Mesosphere
Thermosphere
Exosphere
The ionosphere is made up of
electrically charged particles
Earth is absorbing radiation and also
continuously sending energy back into space
Insolation
sun coming in , sun rays coming in
The rate of absorption for any particular area varies depending on the
physical characteristics of that area and the amount of insolation.
SOLID, ROUGH TEXTURED, …
dark colored items absorb heat and light energy faster than liquid, smooth, light colored items.
Conduction is
the transfer of energy that occurs when molcules collide
For conduction to occur..
substances must be in direct contact with one another
