ATMOSPHERE Flashcards
World Meteorological
Day is celebrated every year on
23 March
The 7 Layers of Atmosphere in Order are
Exosphere; Ionosphere;
Thermosphere; Mesosphere; Ozone
Layer; Stratosphere; Troposphere
Ionosphere
Radio waves transmitted from the earth are reflected back to the earth by this layer and ionised by solar and cosmic radiation
Mesosphere
- Third Layer
- Located between about 50 and 80 kilometers above Earth’s surface
- Most meteors burn up in this atmospheric layer.
Most of the atmospheric Ozone is found in which layer of atmosphere
Stratosphere
Troposphere
This part of the
atmosphere is the densest and almost all weather is in this region
Exosphere
This is the upper limit of our atmosphere. It extends from the top of
the thermosphere up to 10,000 km
Thermosphere
It starts just above the mesosphere and
extends to 600 km high. Aurora and satellites occur in this layer.
Mesosphere
It starts just above the stratosphere and
extends to 85 km high. Meteors burn up in this layer.
Batholith is a type of
Igneous Rock
granite, quartz, monzonite or diorite
What are Cirrus clouds?
- Cirrus clouds are formed at high altitudes of 8,000 – 12,000m.
- They are detached thin clouds.
- They have a feathery appearance.
- They are always white.
cumulus clouds
formed at 4000m-7000m
Appear to be cotton wool scattered everywhere
The term ‘monsoon’ is derived from a/an
Arabic Word Mausim
