ATC test 2 Flashcards
What are 2 reasons traffic is passed to pilots in controlled airspace and when traffic would be passed to pilots
- To allow separation from other aircraft and to operate IAW ATC instructions
List the types of flight and airspace where clearance is required
Class A/C/D IFR in class E and restricted airspace
what document shows the variation of circuits? Standard?
Standard is left hand circuits. ERSA will show or ATC will tell you
What is the role of the ground controller
Responsible for the coordination and clearance of aircraft taxiing on the ground and the issue of airways clearance if no clearance delivery is available
What are the visual signals given to aircraft In the air and on the ground and what do they mean (9marks)
Steady green
- In flight - authorised to land if pilot satisfied no Collin risk
- On ground - authorised to take off if pilot satisfied no collision risk
Green flashes
- In flight - return for landing
- On ground - authorised to taxi if pilot satisfied no collision risk
Steady red
- In flight - give way to other aircraft and continue circling
-On ground - stop
Flashing red
- Inflight - unsafe do not land
- On ground - taxi clear of landing area
White flashing
- In flight - no meaning
- On ground - return to starting point
Give a clearance delivery call in the correct format
-Nowra delivery, taipan 42, IFR for marimbula FPR, visual departure request clearance
- Nowra delivery, my call sign, type of flight to where, what departure, request clearance
Give a taxi clearance on ground
- Nowra ground, taipan 42, POB 3 received foxtrot, request taxi
- Nowra ground, ,y callsign, POB, what ATIS, request taxi
List 2 documents in planning that show the suitability of an airfield
ERSA and NOTAM (NAIPS)
What is the departure procedure for a VMC
you conduct a visual departure
What is 1 essential altitude requirement - what do you do when you achieve what
Achieve each safety hight prior to reaching the next safety hight sector
When can you conduct a visual approach by day for an IFR aircraft and when can ATC authorise (what are the requirements they are thinking through)
- clear of cloud;
- in sight of ground or water;
- with a flight visibility not less than 5,000M or, in the case of a helicopter, is able to proceed under helicopter VMC, or the aerodrome is in sight; and
- subsequently can maintain (a), (b) and (c) at an altitude not less than:
- if in controlled airspace - 500FT above the lower limit of the CTA unless a clearance is received from ATC to depart and re-enter controlled airspace during the descent; and
- the minimum height prescribed by MAO OIP as relevant to the location of the aircraft.
What are the tracking requirements for IFR on vis approach by day?
The captain must maintain track heading on rout progressively authorised by ATC until when:
- Within 5nm of the aerodrome
- Then join the circuit as directed by ATC and approach nominated runway
Description of tracking the requirements for a night vis approach by IFR
- within 3nm v
- Within the prescribed circling area
-Then join the circuit as determined by ATC and approach on the nominated runway
Response for “taipan 42 contact melb centre on 121.2”
121.2, taipan 42
- [ ] You’re outside controlled airspace tracking to repeating position akin, going to Bathurst. Time interval between the two are given. You are passing overhead akin at this time, is a position report required?
Yes unless you’re identified
