ATAR Mock Exam Flashcards
When rounding, how many decimal places do we go to for Money? What about percentages?
We round to 2DP for Money and 1DP for Percentages.
How do we calculate simple interest?
Interest = Principle x Rate x Time
How do we calculate Compound interest?
Amount = Principle x (1+Rate) to the power of Time.
What are Irrational Numbers?
An Irrational number is a number that never ends. e.g. pi (3.14159…)
What are Rational Numbers?
A Rational number is a number that has a finite amount of digits or is recurring. e.g 0.59 OR 0.8181818181
What is a Surd?
A Surd is the square root of a number when the number is not a perfect square, thus resulting in an Irrational number.
What is a perfect square?
Perfect squares are the result of any number squared. e.g 4 is a perfect square as it is the result of 2 x 2.
True or False: We can only add and Subtract the same type of Surds
True.
e.g: 2 Root 3 + 3 Root 3 = 5 Root 3
2 Root 3 + 3 Root 2 = 2 Root 3 + 3 Root 2
What does Root A + Root A equal?
Root A + Root A = A
True or False: Root AB = Root A + Root B
True
What is the formula for dividing Surds?
Root A/Root B = Root A/B
What is the rule for Perfect Squares?
(a+b)2 = (a+b)(a+b) = a2 + 2ab + b2
(a-b)2 = (a-b)(a-b) = a2 - 2ab + b2
(a-b)(a+b) = a2 - b2
What is the rule for the Difference of Squares?
a2 - b2 = (a-b)(a+b)
Show an equation transitioning from factorised to expanded:
[2(x-3)] = {2x-6}
[Factorised] = {Expanded}
Factories this using common factors: 15y-5
15y-5 = 5(3y-1)
