• give medical assistance to anyone in need
• arrest suspect if still at scene
• exclude others from crime scene
• isolate area - all people are a danger to the evidence

➡️ there is a Limited amount of time (3- 4 minutes before crime, time during the crime, and 3-4 minutes after crime committed)
➡️ original state of crime scene
➡record for investigation/ court - all info can be used in court
➡️ condition of the crime scene (documents, objects etc.)
➡️ sketch- photograph- take notes

➡️photos should be unaltered -must have date and time recorded
➡️important that nothing is different between photographs ( nothing should be moved , so all photos match up)
➡️use objects to scale items at crime scene
➡️record if scene is inside or outside
