ASuW Part 2 Flashcards
What are the two methods of detection and what are some examples of them?
Active - Radar, Sonar
Passive - ESM, E/O Devices, Visual, Opintel
What is STOFDIST
STOFDIST is the minimum range to which an aircraft may close a hostile, suspect of unknown contact based on the potential anti air warfare (AAW) capability of the suspected threat. STOFDIST is dynamic and may be reduced significantly for other contacts once a particular threat is localised
Define Risk Level 1
Risk Level 1 - No Risk : under risk level 1 the aircraft cannot be shot down as it remains outside the promulgated stand-off distance based on the expected threat.
Define Risk Level 2
Risk Level 2 - Minimal Risk : under risk level 2 the aircraft is likely to evade an attack. The aircraft may penetrate the stand- off distance to gain identity and recognition information
Define Risk Level 3
Risk Level 3 - Medium Risk : under risk level 3 the aircraft will encounter difficulty evading an attack
Define Risk Level 4
Risk Level 4 - All Risk : under risk level 4 it is unlikely that an aircraft will evade an attack.
What is plan Quicklook?
A search plan normally used as initial employment for an MPA or MPH (Merlin). An all around 360 degree search centred on the friendly force HVU. The circled is divided into eight sectors, lettered A through H.
What is plan Trout?
Is used to obtain a regular cross fix position of a radiating platform, Plan Trout can only be used when two or more units hold the same racket.
Define Probing
A probe is an order to carry out the visual identification of a specific target which has previously been located by other means.
Define Shadowing
Shadowing is the observation of an enemy unit or force(s), usually as a sequel to surveillance or reconnaissance, for the purpose of reporting: Composition, Location, Movement
Define Marking
The aim of marking is to be able to deliver an immediate and effective attack on the enemy when hostilities are ordered.
