Astro Flashcards
What assumptions are made when calculating surface temperature of a star?
The star is a black body
The star is spherical
The surface temperature is constant/uniform
No energy is absorbed between earth and the star
What is an inertial frame of reference?
Frame of references that is at rest / constant speed
What is a non inertial frame of reference?
Frame of reference that is accelerating
What is the equivalence principle?
It is impossible to tell the difference between the effects of gravity and acceleration
Which clock runs slower and why?
A clock on board a spacecraft which is accelerating in deep space or a clock on earth
The clock on the surface of the earth would run more slowly as the gravitational field for the spacecraft is smaller
Schwarzchjld radius
The distance from the centre of a mass to the event horizon
